Research Insight: Multi-plant improvement programmes

Very large firms typically have a number of factories operating across the world.   For these companies the challenge is how to optimise the performance of all their operations.  But as Netland and Aspelund (2014) identify, multi-plant improvement programmes have been little researched and hence there is still much to learn about this concept.   Their article summarises all the research that has been done to date and identifies key features of such programmes.

Our contribution to this agenda is to speculate as to what multi-plant manufacturers can learn from consumer service firms who operate chains of operations….
