Last year, Marriott acquired the Starwood chain of hotels. This made it by far the largest hotel chain in the world with 6,000 hotels, over 1 million hotel rooms, located in 122 countries. That’s right, there are 466 companies with greater market value ($35 bn in Marriott’s case) and assets ($24 bn), which is how Forbes ranks companies.
