Additive manufacturing in the aviation industry

Interesting piece on the MIT Technology Review website that explores how aircraft manufacturers are adopting and adapting additive processes.  This enables them to manufacture components in new materials and with new properties.   The implication of this is that aero engines could be redesigned to have fewer parts, be smaller, and/or be more aerodynamic.
