We talk about the different stages in the new product product development process in chapter 12 of our book.   We emphasis that this is not a rigid process, but very fluid – especially if the product is new to the world and/or highly complex.

Nothing illustrates this better than the Aeromobil flying car.  The designers and engineers of this product have been working on it for 20 years.  Currently their third prototype is going through regular flight trials.  As yet, there appears to be no plan to put it into production.
