How the range of services a manufacturer may offer varies by industry sector

A wide range of different services may be offered by manufacturers and operators. These include:

  • Design and development services
  • Systems and solutions
  • Maintenance and support services
  • Retail and leasing services
  • Installation and implementation services
  • Property and real estate
  • Financial services
  • Consulting services
  • Outsourcing and operating services
  • Procurement services
  • Transportation, distribution and logistics services

But not all manufacturers will offer all these services.  In our last blog, we explained how the strategy for capital goods manufacturers evolved over time.   The same is true in other industry sectors.  Typical bundles of service provision for some other sectors are as follows:

  • textile mill operators provide distribution services
  • electrical and electronic goods manufacturers provide technical support and design services
  • vehicle manufacturers provide maintenance and spare parts support
  • construction firms offer real estate and financing services.
