R2D2 has arrived in hotel operations

This story ran in most of the American media and global hospitality media on Tuesday – Aloft Hotel’s launch of their robotic bellhop called ‘Botlr’.  Best coverage, in my opinion, was from the New York Times (see here), as it did not simply reproduce Starwood’s press release, but provided some additional context and analysis.

Like our blog about the Reebok store in Berlin, one gets the sense this more about enhancing the servicescape than making operations more productive.  Every trendy hotel has to have a robot, otherwise it’s not trendy.
