New stadium – good; but supporting transport infrastructure – not so good?

The headline says it all – “The San Francisco 49ers New Football Stadium Is a Dud”.  When the NFL season starts, the stadium should attract a capacity 70,000 crowd.  So, quite rightly, the operators have been testing the new stadium by holding smaller pre-season events there.  Ashlee Vance, who authored this article, went to a soccer match which attracted 48,000 spectators, and what he saw was not good…

According to Vance, the stadium is well designed, but the transport infrastructure that should support it is not.  The car parks did not work smoothly, and the light rail system required people to walk across the track to get to the right platforms!  And if you get onto a train safely, the journey can take six times as long as driving by car.
