Holland & Barrett’s international expansion based on franchising

This company’s international expansion plans are based on developing franchising partners in key overseas markets.  They have a website dedicated to explaining franchise opportunities and their franchise model, stressing that potential partners should share H&B’s “commitments and values”.  According to an article in The Grocer, the company opened its first international store in Cyprus in 2011.  It now has 80 around the world, with 34 in China.  It has tended to target markets with significant ex-patriate British populations, such as Gibraltar and Malta, but is now looking at expansion into the Middle East (Kuwait) and South East asia (Malaysia).
