Channel Tunnel – it takes time to make money out of major infrastructure developments

The Channel Tunnel was officially opened twenty years ago.  The BBC has reflected on this and provided some very interesting facts and figures.   For instance, nothing highlights more that the UK is an island nation than the fact that 85% of vehicles through the Tunnel are from this country, and only 6% are French.   It also took a major restructuring of its debt burden and eighteen years before the Tunnel became profitable.  More about its construction and operation can be found on the link.
