Top 25 lean ‘tools’ briefly explained provides a very useful glossary of the “Top 25 LeanTools”.   But it comes with our health warning.  The term ‘tools’ is often used in this area – as here – but this may not be the best way to describe the variety of approaches used in lean manufacturing.   The ‘tools’ range from abstract concepts and philosophies, such as kaizen and gemba,  along to specific policies and practices, such as OEE and SMED.  Listing them in this glossary it as all to easy to think that they are of equal importance.  Moreover, although it is suggested that these can be used in isolation from each other, in  most cases it is the integration of these tools into a coherent manufacturing strategy that is the key to success.
