Goat’s cheese ‘crisis’ hits restaurant chains and consumers

If you cannot get your favourite goats cheese topped pizza in Pizza Express, it’s because there is a great shortage of the product in the UK.  As long ago as September 2013, the British Cheese Board was forecasting this.  Apparently goat’s cheese production is seasonal anyway, as the goats are ‘rested’ over winter.  But poor weather meant that last year’s overall output was lower than normal, so there are no stocks left to see caterers and consumers through to next Spring.

For the full lowdown on this, and other cheese production, see the BBC Food pages.
