Smart cities

The UK government, like most governments, is acutely aware that the country’s future economic success depends on commercial organisations’ ability to compete on a global basis.  One way it believes this can be achieved is if the UK develops ‘smarter cities’.  Hence yesterday was the first meeting of the Smart Cities Forum – a combination of representatives from government, cities, businesses and universities aimed at enabling the development of this concept.  The full list of participants can be found on the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills web page.  But perhaps of more interest, are the two operations insight videos, talking about Greenwich and Birmingham, that explain the smart city concept.
