Operations Insight: Rolls Royce Aerospace

The BBC is reshowing the three part documentary about Rolls Royce on BBC2 on Sunday evenings.  If you missed the first two, they are available on the iplayer.   Last Sunday’s programme showed how the company is able to remote sense the performance of all its engines, as they are operated throughout the world.  This was particularly relevant, since earlier that day I had been explaining and discussing the operations strategy of ‘servitisation’ with the Surrey’s Executive MBAs, using RR as an example.  Further insight into this can be gained from RR’s own website.

But the programmes provide more than just an insight into servitisation, you can also get insight into their R&D process, manufacturing processes, organisational culture, work organisation, and so on.  Well worth watching.
