Online sales has no impulse

Interesting article in The Grocer about the relatively low level of confectionary sales online.  Whilst nearly everyone buys sweets (90% of the UK population), only 6% of consumers have bought them online.   Supermarkets are well aware that such items do not appear on the shopping list, which is why they stock them close to the check out – to take advantage of impulse purchases.   However this behaviour does not appear to occur online.  This report suggests that confectionary manufacturers have to persuade the online retailers to redesign their websites in order to generate far more sales.
