Hand built bespoke bikes

Given that we feature British bicycle manufacturer Brompton in the series of videos that accompany our book, it’s no surprise that noticed this article about hand made bikes.  It seems that demand for custom built bicycles is significant – one maker has a year long waiting list – partly because it typically takes two weeks to make one bike. Considering that the starting price for a bike is £2,500, going up to £10,000, this really is good old-fashioned ‘craftsmanship’.  This is a good example of what we discuss on page 60, namely that some products continue to be made using craft processes, even though they are also mass produced.
