easiJet – low cost and green

easiJet features as an Operations Insight on page 36 because it is an archetype of the low cost strategy.  But as it recent press release identifies, being low cost does not exclude being environmentally friendly.  Indeed, being green can save money.  This is demonstrated by the airline’s most recent initiatives, which include:

  • replacing the seating with more lightweight and renewable seats;
  • using lightweight trollies onboard;
  • adding ‘sharklets’ to wing tips.

This allows easiJet to claim that their carbon footprint is 22% lower than a traditional airline.
