Biotech in the UK

One of the case insights in our book is TMO Renewables (page 362), a biotech company that develops thermophilic micro-organisms to ferment biomass at lower temperatures in order to produce ethanol.  A recent feature in The Manufacturer discusses this industry sector and its £4 billion contribution to the UK economy.  It identifies the different forms of biotech, which is applied not just to developing alternative sources of cheap energy, but also to sectors as diverse as food production, healthcare, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
