Reassuring ‘reshoring’ in USA

Very interesting article on the BBC Business webpage about how manufacturers are opening new, or restoring old, manufacturing plants in the USA, rather than offshore production to lower labour cost economies (see page 444 in book).   It is estimated that 50,000 new jobs have resulted from this policy shift.  It is being encouraged by investment in new technology that makes the US plants some of the most productive in the world – and hence able to compete of a cost basis with more traditional plants overseas.  This has also been helped by lower energy costs in the USA, as the country becomes energy self sufficient over the next few years.
